You do not expect a Code::Blocks v17.12 last released in 2018 to just work six years later on macOS Sequoia v15.1 do you? It would have to be compiled against the macOS Sequoia SDK and that has not happened. So would all of the proprietary libraries that they bundle in the Application itself.

No version Code::Blocks v20 has been built for macOS Sequoia either. You can forget about Code::Blocks on macOS Sequoia and just use Xcode 16.1.

Considering the majority of students I see around here in a large U.S. university town are using Macs, it makes me wonder why that instructor chose Code::Blocks when even a little research would have shown it hasn't been compatible with Macs for several years now. Is the instructor also requiring Windows or Linux to install this IDE?

Your options:

  1. Take a C++ course from another source that uses a supported Mac development environment.
  2. If you have 16 GB RAM on that MBP and enough free storage, you might consider installing the free UTM virtual machine, a Code::Blocks-supported Linux distribution guest, and Code::Blocks v20. Then you can launch that UTM guest when you need to use Code::Blocks.

I usually don't use code blocks , but I need for a course because my instructor insisted to use code blocks.

The popular cross-platform IDE tool is Visual Studio Code.

C::B is seemingly now gcc based, and Intel x86-64 based, which means it’ll may be an adventure when mixing with Clang tooling, and with Apple silicon.

Using Xcode as your IDE, or maybe using VSC, or the Clang command-line, is your path, or using Windows in Intel x86-64, or maybe Linux on Intel x86-64, as the instructor likely intends.
