What type of lock are we talking about?
Carrier lock? Only the carrier to whom the phone Is locked can release the lock – if they choose to do so.
SIM lock (SIM PIN or PUK code lock)? You need to get the correct PIN or PUK code from your carrier.
Passcode lock? You may need to reset the iPhone and erase everything on it.
Activation lock ("locked to owner")? This is an anti-theft device. You cannot bypass it. To unlock the phone, you will need the credentials it is asking for … or proof of original purchase that is satisfactory to Apple (e.g., a receipt from Apple showing your name and the phone's serial number).
