iPad mini 5th Gen Won't Update Past 16.7.10

Greetings,

From the iPadOS 18 is compatible with the iPad mini 5th gen. However, my iPad mini 5 (MP2F2LL/A , A1822) will always report "iPadOS is up to date".

The iPad mini has 18GB free, and I've gone through the various restart types, and made a DFU Mode restore while connected to a MacBook. The DFU restore and update still thinks 16.7.10 (20H350) is the latest.

Is there anything else I can try? Is there anything more that staff at an Apple Store could do?

thanks!

iPad, iPadOS 16

With iPadOS 16.7.10 installed, this might suggest that you have something other than an iPad mini5 - such as a fifth generation iPad. The iPad5 can only be updated to iPadOS 16.7.10; an iPad5 (A1822) is fundamentally unable to be updated to iPadOS 16 or later.

You can verify your iPad model information here:

Settings > General > About >

  • Model Name
  • Model Number

Not sure which iPad you have? Identify your iPad model.
