macOS sequoia 15.1 software update stalls at 30 mins

Trying to install recent update but 2021 MacBook Pro stalls with 30 mins remaining.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.0

Wait an hour. Sometimes the update appears stuck but it's not.
