Why won't my AirTag chirp after battery change?

Have tried all the suggestions to get the battery to chirp when I changed it in one of my AirTags. Have used Energizer batteries, as is and gently scoured and cheap batteries from a dollar store

When I was lucky enough to get one chirp, I couldn’t get a second, let alone 5.

I did all the recommended resets - Bluetooth, Wifi, Cellular, ID , etc etc etc.

Nothing seems to work.

Any recent, effective solves for this continuing issue?
