I use apple books to view and read my school pdfs. I do not take notes in class so i make use of the “add notes” option on the apple books app to make all my jottings. The problem is, these notes keep disappearing! What am i doing wrong ? How do i get them back ?

I'm not sure what you mean by the "add notes" option. Do you mean the Markup Bar?

Personally, I wouldn't use Books for what you're doing. If you're taking notes on the pdf with the Apple Pencil, you can save the pdf to files, open in there and write on it directly.
You could also share the pdf to Notes and add additional notes.

I have no idea why the notes disappeared in Books or if there is a way to get them back.
