Mac mini password not accepted during software update

Bought a new Mac mini last month I managed to set it up correctly and log into my Apple ID ok. Now I’m trying to update to the latest software and it will not accept my account password .any ideas?. I’m trying to update to latest software and being asked to imput my password but it’s not being accepted but works with all my other devices
