ChatGPT app causing MacBook to freeze and crash??

I have ChatGPT app installed on my MacBook and use it a lot while coding or debugging. After using this app, my MacBook is crashing and freezing a lot. It's only when I Force Quit the ChatGPT app, it starts working normally, I tested with VS Code as well, since it's usually running at the time when I run ChatGPT but, force quitting VS code didn't do the job, while force quitting ChatGPT does. Since I have the 36GB model, neither I have too many safari tabs open, nor I'm multi tasking a lot, I usually have 2 tabs open, with one window of VS code, and ChatGPT , with nothing too heavy running on VS Code. I think the issue is with the ChatGPT app and the new MacOS.

I'm using M3 Pro 36GB, with macOS Sequoia 15.1

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.1

Fixed it. I noticed that when scrolling through my archived chats, the app would freeze. There were too many existing chats and that was bogging it down.

Steps:

Force quit the ChatGPT app on mac
Open ChatGPT in the browser
Settings > General > Archive all chats
Wait 2-3 minutes, refresh browser. If they're gone, you're good. If not, try 1-3 again.
Reopen ChatGPT for Mac. All chats should be gone and it shouldnt be freezing anymore.

You can either contact the developer or wait for an update by them to fix the issue. There are many ChatGPT apps on the Mac App Store and most of them are not even from OpenAI, so you will first need to figure out who the actual developer is for the app that you have. If you downloaded ChatGPT from the OpenAI website, then it will be OpenAI that you will need to contact for assistance.

Contact OpenAI about support for their app. In the mean time you can remove the app and compare your results.

Same here! When I first install the chat gpt app it worked fine. After a while (about couple hrs), my mac started to freeze and I restarted it twice.

After the second time I realized it is the chatgpt app that causing the issue.

I am using m4 pro 24 gb, with Sequoia 15.1.

seems some concatenated process was left hanging...

Before, you didn't mention in your post if a

clean reinstall already has been tried to resolve the issue.
last app update already installed
which version of sequoia you installed
other specification

I have the same problem, my MacBook completely freezes, when I start the Chatgpt app, I already reinstalled it and updated my macOS, it still isn't working. I never had this with any program before on that Mac. Only solution is to force quit the app.
