Photo and file storage on external hard drive

Is it possible from IPhone and iPad ?? I am probably going to need to upgrade my phone currently have a 12 pro max but funds are limited so here we are. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions x

It is possible to export photos directly to an external drive. Go to this Apple support article for more: Import and export photos and videos on iPhone - Apple Support. You can also export your photos to your computer and then to the external drive. But also know that in iOS and iPadOS you can't run the Photos Library from an external drive.

If you use iCloud Photos , you can "Optimize Storage" by letting the full sized images be stored at iCloud.com and keeping smaller, screen-sized images on your phone.
