Remote not working for apple tv made in 2012

My apple tv was made in 2012. I havent touched it in a while and decided to try use it again. Turns out that I cant even connect the apple tv to my network because my remote isnt working. Whenever i press a button on the remote, the led wouldnt change anything. It should flash three times or once, but the light stays the same. Any help please?
