Unable to find "select all" and "hide" options on my Photos app

I want to keep photos in my albums, but delete the ones under “photos“.

I am running 17.7.1 on my iPad.

First of all, I CAN find “select” under the three dots at the top right of my page, but I CANNOT find “select all”.

Second, there is no menu at the bottom of my page, so I cannot find “hide”. It is not in the three dots at the top of the page, either.

Photos is the place you go to find all of your pictures, sorted in order of capture date (in iPadOS 17.) An Album is list of pictures, from that Photos section, that you want to see together--so if it's not in the Photos section, then it can't be in any albums. Since albums are just lists from the Photos section, this allows you to have a single picture in several albums-- on several lists. It works like playlists for Music. The Music library doesn't get smaller when you put a song on a playlist.

I'm running iPadOS 18, so I'm not sure I remember where Select All and Hide are in iPadOS 17. But I found this screenshot from earlier:

You can see "Deselect All" in the upper right, and you can see Hidden in the Utilities section near the bottom of the sidebar.
