my apple pencil was gifted to me but i haven't used it in quite a while so its not connecting to my ipad what should i do?

my Apple Pencil is a Generation 1 and when I plug it in to connect it the pair box will come up for about 2 seconds then disappear but if I was quick enough and did press the button in time it does nothing. I think the battery might be completely drained out so I was wondering what u could do and how much that would be?

Apple Pencil (1st generation)

Apple Pencils have very tiny batteries in them and if they are discharged for an extended period of time, the batteries die and can't be charged again. I'm afraid you'll need to buy a new Pencil if you want to use one. They need to be continuously charged. Apple doesn't offer service or battery replacement on Apple Pencil.
