Ads that cannot be closed….grrrrrrrrrrr

Why are Apple not monitoring their supported apps that have ads that cannot be closed, until you have to totally close down the app you are using?? Understandably, the volume of apps must be mind boggling, but because Apple allow apps to be posted into the app store, it is Apple’s responsibility to ensure they ‘police’ the apps and their content including ads, to ensure the developers and app postings comply with common decency to ensure proper operation and compliance of the app, to ensure when the ads are trying to be closed by the user, they can be closed normally. Ads are now becoming totally obnoxious, because they cannot be closed as they used to be in days long past. Plus the number of ads have gotten far out of hand and ridiculous, to the point of frustration.

Let’s get a grip on reality Apple and rein in the absurd before your public go bananas and start leaving in droves.

Ads are specific to the app that you are using. Apple makes zero money off of the ads you see and is the source of income for the developer to allow you to use the app for free. There is no requirement from Apple to require a method to skip the ad. You will find most of those apps also have an ad-free option that you would have to pay for, so it would not make sense for them to continue with a free version where you could just skip the ad. They would make zero money that way. You have 3 options:

  • Watch the ads
  • Pay for the ad free version
  • Don't use that app

Developers are not spending their money and time to create apps just so users can use them without any method to recoup their costs. Some apps don't have ads at all, so choose wisely on which developers you want to support and how you plan on doing that. You can also write a review on the app in the App Store to let others know about your experience.

Apps created by Apple contain no ads at all, but they do offer the Apple Arcade subscription service where there is a vast library of games offered by other developers that contain no ads and there are no in-app purchases.
