Bluetooth headphones sound weird if using itself as input when connected to MacBook, but no sound if input is changed to MacBook

Hi,

I am using Sony Wireless WH-CH720N on a 2022 MacBook Air. As the title suggests, when connecting my headphones to my MacBook the audio sounds weird. This happens to my AirPods and I have previously resolved it by changing the input to my MacBook speakers. However, when I do this the sound cuts off.

I have already tried forgetting and reconnecting the headphones, as well as forgetting it from my iPhone (which it was connected to) and forgetting it then reconnecting it to my MacBook.

Please help as this is very annoying and inconvenient!

MacBook Air, macOS 13.4
