Disable read receipt on mac mail, using Macbook Pro OS Sonoma.
I am using mac mail and when I send an email I am getting a read receipt notification from the recipient. How can I turn it off?
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.6

Mail doesn't send or respond to read receipts natively. You would have had to create a header that adds the disposition status request in Terminal. Did you ever do that?

Yes unfortunately I did apply a command in Terminal but I can't remember exactly what it was and now I wish to disable it.
defaults delete com.apple.mail UserHeaders
If you have added any other custom user headers in the same manner, they will be deleted along with the disposition notification.
Thank you but unfortunately when I add the command you mention, I get the following response:
2024-11-12 15:59:17.320 defaults[42659:783633]
Domain (com.apple.mail) not found.
Defaults have not been changed.
So I'm presuming I will still get read receipts?

I don't know why that happened, but yes, you are still sending requests for disposition notifications.
