Date in Status Bar

It looks like the need for the date to display in the status bar has been an issue for many years now. I'm a new switch from Android to Apple. The fact that this issue hasn't been addressed despite years of requests is one in my mounting list of dissatisfactions. Have I missed something somewhere? There's obviously room where the time is displayed.
