Subtitling for multi language content.

I'm trying to watch the excellent series Liaison on Apple TV+. The series is multi-lingual. I'm English. I would like to watch the content in its original audio multi-lingual version (not the dubbed version) but have the subtitles appear only when the audio is not in English, and not when the audio is English. Is this possible, as I have tried every combination of settings I can think of and nothing seems to work as above? Am I wasting my time trying?
