How do I setup Siri to announce incoming text messages on iPhone X?

My wife wants Siri to read text messages as they arrive, especially while driving. How do I set that up on her iPhone X?

Thank you,

Here’s how to set up Siri to announce incoming text messages on your wife’s iPhone X iOS 15 or later:

1. Open Settings on the iPhone.

2. Go to Notifications > Announce Notifications.

3. Toggle Announce Notifications on.

4. Under Announce When Connected To, choose Headphones or CarPlay depending on where she wants Siri to announce messages (e.g., while driving, CarPlay might be ideal if the car supports it).

5. Scroll down to Messages and ensure it’s set to Announce Messages with Siri.

With this setup, Siri will announce new text messages through the selected audio devices (like AirPods or CarPlay) and even give options to reply hands-free. This should help keep her informed safely while driving.
