I purchased an album but all files are in .m4p instead of .m4a. Why isn't the album in non-DRM format?

I previously purchased albums from iTunes and the files came in .m4a format which my PC programs recognize, but now I just bought a new album that came out in November 2024 and the files are in .m4p and a program I use won't recognize it. How do I download the non-DRM version. I do subscribe to apple music, but I bought this in the iTunes store from my phone.

Did you add the album to your Apple Music cloud library before you decided to purchase it? There is an obscure bug that sometimes results in new purchases being hidden from your purchase history, which might not be obvious if you've already added the album. Look at the album in the iTunes Store. If the tracks say Purchased instead of Play then they need unhiding. See Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support.

Have you enabled Play lossless audio in Apple Music on Windows - Apple Support? That could potentially result in higher resolution DRM copies being downloaded.
