"Disclaimer" Anti-spoiler trigger warnings for AppleTV+

Not sure if this is the right forum for this kind of question. It's really a question/suggestion for whomever programs and packages the shows on AppleTV+. If there's a better place to ask this question please let me know.

In their just-concluded series Disclaimer, the climactic plot reveal in the final episode was spoiled to some extent by AppleTV+.

Like many programs and series, there's a page of text at the top of each episode that alerts viewers to potentially uncomfortable or triggering depictions in the upcoming program. For Disclaimer (spoiler alert) the twist is that a main character was assaulted, which turns the story on its head. But the disclaimer at the top of the show telegraphed the plot twist and spoiled the big reveal.

I understand the need for these pre-program warnings and have no objection to them.

But would it be possible to "opt out" of getting the on-screen alerts? Or, to dig deeper, perhaps there could be options in one's account settings to indicate to which types of content (if any) the viewer wishes to be alerted.

To me, it just feels more like a "cinematic" experience when the program just starts from black and you enter the world of the film without the foreshadowing of the opening disclaimers.

I don't think AppleTV+ spoiled the story intentionally as you're suggesting. I think they were just adding the flags per standard procedure.

The series title, "Disclaimer," no doubt refers to the one at the beginning of the book featured in the series, "The Perfect Stranger." As Catherine flips thru the book, she encounters it a couple of pages in:

"DISCLAIMER: Any resemblance to persons living or dead is not a coincidence."

It's also the name of the source novel, which has no content warning at the top.

Interesting point being that the series is titled "Disclaimer" and the discussion is about the disclaimer that appeared at the start of every episode. In fact the title has nothing to do with the actual plot of the series. I think the disclaimer is the whole point and was a clue to the ending just like you find clues in other movies. I suspect you read that at the start of every episode and did not make the connection until the final reveal in episode 7. It was a gotcha moment. At least I suspect that was the plan.

For others reading along, the disclaimer at the start of each episode was:

"This series contains strong sexual content and depictions of sexual, physical, and emotional violence."
