How can I update my iPad 6th Gen to the latest iPadOS version?

I’m totally confused but I’m sure last time I will didn’t all have

You cannot.

The 6th generation iPad (regular, not Pro, Air or Mini) cannot be updated to the current iOS 18 as it is not compatible and lacks the RAM, hardware and CPU to properly run it.


The most current version of iPadOS it can run is iOS 17.7.1. If you aren't already running that, go to Settings ➜ General ➜ Software Update
