Email Alert tone disabled in iOS 17.1 on iPhone 12

Like others I tried to set up an email alert tone (for my wife in this respect) but have been denied this facility in iOS17.1 on iphone12.

What is the purpose of this change?

I note the search and rescue guys concern, frustration and amazement!!
