WD Powered 18TB drive not Mounting on new macbooks with USB micro b 3.0 to USB c 3.0 cable

My 18TB WD powered drive mounts with a USB micro b to usb c cable on my 2021 Imac but it doesn't mount on my 2024 macbook pro or my mums 2024 macbook air.

I pulled out my old 2013 macbook and it will mount when using the USB micro b to USB A cable.

It won't show up in disk utility at all with the 2024 macbook pro and the disk doesn't even start to spin.

I have tried two of the same cables incase one was faulty.

I have also tried the cable with a non powered drive and it won't mount but the light goes on.

Could it be that even though the drive is powered, that the USB micro b to USB c needs more power to mount the drives and the cable is not providing that? Or is it more likely a software issue happening with all the new macs?

Thanks, this is driving me crazy as my archive is backed up on these two 18t drives and I need to keep using them to back up work.

Dunno… could be either A) what you said/posted or a bad micro usb-b to usb-c cable ( or a low voltage/current one… ) you could use the usb micro-b to usb-A cable with a USB-C adapter ( plug in usb-A one end and gives you a USB-C plug) those should be cheap and reliable.. cable should be USB 3.1 Gen2 which supports ultra fast data transfer rates up to 10 Gbt/s and at least 5 Amps…
