Payment Declined by Bank

I have a a debit card in Wallet which I use successfully for Apple Pay all the time, online and in stores, works fine without issues.

I used to also be able to send money in Messages as well. But now when I try to do so with that debit card I get “Payment Not Completed” saying “This payment could not be completed because it was declined by [the bank]. Contact [the bank] for more information or try again with a different card.”

there’s a button to contact the bank which goes to the card info in Wallet and there is options to contact the bank. However, despite the message in the popup alert in Messages, the bank shows no record of a declined transaction and has no knowledge of how to solve the issue. So it seems the bank did not actually decline any transaction. They suggested removing and readding the card, which I did, but that didn’t change anything.

I don’t have a second debit card to test with.

curious if anyone else has had such a situation and what may have fixed it?

else I can contact Apple support and hopefully they’ll be able to share more information

So I ended up getting with my bank again and they got on with Mastercard as well, who indicated this is actually a widespread problem affecting many Mastercard-issued debit cards. So I guess I’m waiting on them to resolve their issues. It’s just odd that they’d be having an issue that at this point has been ongoing for over a week.

thanks for the help though!
