viewing movies and TV shows in a playlist on Apple TV

I am trying to organize movies and TV shows into playlists on my Apple TV device. It allows me to do this in the app on my Macbook but they do not show up on my iphone or the Apple TV that is connected to my television. I have Home Sharing activated on all devices. I was able to access the playlists on the TV through the computers app but only if the movies/TV shows are all downloaded onto my computer. The minute I removed the download on the computer, the movies disappeared on the TV.

I am just trying to organize into usable playlists, rather than the obscure genres that are often assigned by Apple.
