Why does iTunes no longer work at all? ANY iTunes, not my installation

I've been trying for an hour to do something that used to be simple--transfer music from iTunes on my computer to my iPhone.

Upgrade iTunes - did that. It tells me Bonjour isn't installed, although my computer says it is. iTunes helper and iPod whatever they call it NEVER installs with iTunes anymore. It USED to install if you used the Microsoft store download, now it doesn't.

Try to download Bonjour - I already have the latest version, iTunes just doesn't recognize it for some reason.

I AM NOT SUBSCRIBING TO APPLE MUSIC NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU ASK. I have watched Apple continue removing features of iTunes that used to exist in order to push people into their subscription service. NO. Now apparently they've decided to make iTunes barely function, and forget using it between devices. If you didn't already have all the stuff you wanted from one device on your other devices, you're screwed, I guess.

Try to find answers online and all you get is outdated suggestions that didn't work even when they were new. I don't need "solutions" from 2009 in 2024. In 2009 iTunes still worked pretty well, but that was before they got even greedier and began trying to force you into a subscription service.

At this point I'm not even looking for a solution, I'm looking for a new media app. Apple clearly hates their customers and has no intention of providing anything resembling competent services or answers. I'm just here to vent how much I have come to HATE a platform I used to love.

Thanks for messing it all up, Apple. I'm still not subscribing to Apple Music or Apple +.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Also, if you wish iTunes to work correctly, you must not install (or if installed then uninstall) any of Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices for Windows. If any of these apps are installed iTunes becomes limited to working with audiobooks and podcasts, and loses device management functions. The Microsoft Store version of iTunes should be completely independent of other standalone components such as Bonjour. If you're having issues with it then use the traditional installer, installed as admin.
