Kind of strange. I get messages on my iPhone (18.1) message app that don't show up on my Mac (Sonoma) message app, even after several hours. Both are logged into my iCloud. How can I clean up my Mac messages to have all my iPhone messages? Nope, no Mac messages were deleted. In particular, I responded to a message on my iPhone, and that response, nor that from the recipient, shows up on my Mac. Only older parts of the conversation are on the Mac.
Don't know what iPhone you are using or what OS is on your Mac, since you neglected to add those, but put your phone number in settings in Messages and use the same on your phone as well as link the the two with Text Message Forwarding.
