Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen not recognized in MacBook Air Finder

Recently bought a Kindle Paperwhite, it's not my first Kindle but it's certainly the most difficult.

I can connect the Kindle to my Mac with the USB-C cable that the Kindle came with, it charges without a problem. However, 'Finder' will not pick it up, so I'm unable to transfer files.

A friend has an older version of Kindle and 'Finder' picks up his Kindle without an issue.

I have tried several methods that I have found online and within this community here to remedy this problem. I've contacted Amazon and they put the blame on Apple stating that it's something in the updated software that doesn't recognize Kindle, seems absurd to me.

macOS Sonoma 14.7.1 is what I'm currently using.

There must be a workaround this problem, otherwise Amazon needs to be transparent in their selling tactics and state that the Kindle Paperwhite 11th Generation does not work with MacBook Air.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

From what I read on Amazon, your Kindle is not going to appear in Finder. You have to run their app to load files to the Kindle. Again, see:

If there is an incompatibility, I would suspect that is with macOS Sonoma 14.7.1 – and not with the MacBook Air, specifically.

My first thought is that you might be using a cable that supports charging, but not data transfer. There are such cables. Try a cable that you know is rated for data transfer – or that you have observed supporting it, when used with other devices.

I also suggest going into the Finder and selecting Finder > Settings…. Under the General and Sidebar tabs, you should find several settings for what types of items show up on the Desktop and in Finder window sidebars. You might need to turn on the preferences for "External disks" or for "CDs, DVDs, and [iPods / iOS Devices]" before a Kindle will show up, even if the Mac recognizes it.

I am using the cable that came with the Kindle.

Here is a screenshot of what you've mentioned above, everything was already checked. Any other suggestions?

Much appreciated, thank you.
