Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen not recognized in MacBook Air Finder

My first thought is that you might be using a cable that supports charging, but not data transfer. There are such cables. Try a cable that you know is rated for data transfer – or that you have observed supporting it, when used with other devices.

I am using the cable that came with the Kindle.

I also suggest going into the Finder and selecting Finder > Settings…. Under the General and Sidebar tabs, you should find several settings for what types of items show up on the Desktop and in Finder window sidebars. You might need to turn on the preferences for "External disks" or for "CDs, DVDs, and [iPods / iOS Devices]" before a Kindle will show up, even if the Mac recognizes it.

Here is a screenshot of what you've mentioned above, everything was already checked. Any other suggestions?

Thank you, however, I have downloaded the Send to Kindle App - and my Mac still does not recognize the Kindle in Finder.

It's frustrating to say the least, as the only reason I bought a Kindle was to take with me on a six month backpacking trip.

Is it possible that Amazon sent me only a charging cable, and not the data transfer cable? Seems odd, but I can't think of what else it could be.

Your comments were very helpful, and after much failed attempts, I was finally able to transfer some books wirelessly via Amazon's Send to Kindle App.
