Ads are stopping my iTunes

I’ve been playing a game on my iPhone for awhile and recently the ads have started stopping my iTunes. Before the ad would play and I’d hear both the ad and my music. Or the ad would pause my music, then unpause it after the But now the ads stop my music completely. I have to quit the game I’m playing to open iTunes and click play. Normally that wouldn’t bother me. But this game unfortunately has a lot of ads that unfortunately I need to bear through to get in game items for free ($20 for a chance at a item I need is not my cup of gambling tea). I listen to

the music to help with my nerves, and play the game to help pass the time. Is there any way to mute the in game ads? Or at least prevent them from stopping iTunes?

I already tried restarting the game, but that didn’t work.
