new apple watch won’t use established debit from wallet

I use digital wallet on my iphone regularly. my default card is my debit card. also used it on all previous apple watches. just upgraded to apple watch 10. it loaded my 2 other cards onto the watch wallet, but my main default debit card it will not. first says to contact the issuer (I did, but again, it’s working in apple wallet on iphone, just used it). They said they can’t help. then it says check card info.??? then it says invalid card. then we go back to could not add card, contact your card issuer. great circular effect.

I’d just like for the default card on my iPhone wallet to also be on my new Apple watch as the default card. What do I do to make that happen?

yes, all ios are updated and both devices are good to go. and literally used the debit via the phone digital wallet in the last hour. it’s just the new watch with this one card but the card is valid and working just fine
