monterrey want to install a catalina update???

Hi.

A friend of mine ask me to repair her MacBookAir early 2015. It was stuck in some OS upgrade installation. After a few test I managed to start it normally. However now the OS which is Monterrey 12.7.6 want to install an upgrade coming from Catalina 10.15.7. This is the most odd thing that ever happened to me. I suspect she tried to install that upgrade initially and that's why her computer get stuck.

So, How do I correct this?

softwareupdate (the command line tool) used to have a --clear-catalog option. I think it was deprecated back in Catalina (ironically) but you could try it.

You could also try rebooting in Safe Mode, which ought to clear the catalog and remove any cached installers, and see if that resolves the issue.
