Windows 11 does not recognize ipod touch
I have a new iPod touch generation 4, running iOS 6.1.6, just purchased by me. It arrived sealed, apparently new as advertised. Its serial number is verified by apple as a valid device purchased Dec. 2012. The iPod seems to work properly for internet, apps, etc. But when I connect it to my Dell laptop's USB port, I get a Windows alert saying “The last USB device you connected malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.”
Although "Model A1367" is printed on the device, the "about" function in "settings" lists Model as ME178LL/A which I believe is an iPad. This device is definitely an iPod, however.
I have tried stopping then restarting "Apple Mobile Device Service" on my PC (by running services.msc), then restarting both the PC and the iPod. The Apple Mobile Device Service on the PC appears to be running properly. I have tried logging in as an administrator, but that makes no difference.
When I plug the iPod into the USB port, it rings a chime and it charges as it's supposed to.
My objective is to connect to iTunes on my PC in order to transfer my music library. Since the iPod is new, it contains no music currently.
Thanks for your help!
