Finder not working after upgrade to sequoia

I upgraded to Sequoia 15.1 last week. Since then, the Search function in Finder does not work. I have tried searching for terms that are definitely contained in documents and/or in document names, but Search does not retrieve them. Any suggestions?

The link @farrelli posted is the fix. Just run these three commands from Terminal and it's fixed immediately.

To fix, open Terminal:

  • sudo mdutil -Eai off
  • sudo mdutil -Eai on
  • mdutil -as

Are you saying that you're having the issue I started this thread about (items missing from search), run the fix and still having it? Or are you talking about items that you know are available in search but just aren't found in some searches? I wrote a thread about that one too. I have not found a solution to it:

Either way, this has been a terrible OS release. When you pay a premium for Apple products, you should get something at least as good as a Windows release.

I'm at a loss, I've been working on this very issue for a month. I was able to search inside documents for terms. I'm having no issue with searching for file names. Easy, pops right up. Terms inside the documents, nothing. I've been using every suggestion in community boards across the Apple discussion board and nothing is working. I'm hoping this get FIXED NEXT SOFTWARE UPDATE.

Rebuild your Spotlight as linked above—

you can see it working by starting a search for most anything...

I was really having an issue with this. I read the fix, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the terminal to do what the other poster said. So, I did what Apple said when it didn't work. I went to the System folder and clicked on spotlight and went to the privacy thing at the bottom. I added the folder with a plus sign, the ones that weren't picking up. Clicked done. Then did it again, and clicked the minus sign to remove it. Magically, when I went to the finder everything begin to populate based on just one word without me having to look in each folder. Prior to this, the Mac would revert to some master file and would not hold in that file when I typed in a new search term. The Mac suggested fix worked somehow. I don't really care why. I just have some irreplaceable things on there that I am backing up (again) immediately.

Dear Apple Users

Thank you for your post, and appreciate your comments re: Finder and Spotlight not searching correctly the Folders and Documents on a one-word search with Sequoia 15.1.1

We the Apple Users "THE CUSTOMER" should not have to go through the process you have detailed.

It should be like this: "Type a word in FINDER or Spotlight", and all Folders and Documents should show", which has been for decades.

It is not good enough its POOR QUALITY CONTROL by the manufacturer "APPLE"

Let's hope Apple software system engineers read these posts ASAP

As you are aware from my previous posts; APPLE has told me I have to wait for a Sequoia Software update for a fix.

I will be asking for a product exchange under warranty if this isn't fixed by February 2025

Thank you for your comments.
