Family Sharing - iCloud Storage & Apple Music

I am currently part of a family that provides me with Apple Music at someone else's expense. I don't have my own subscription as of now.

I want to leave this family and start a new family sharing with some other people, where I want to purchase iCloud Storage to be shared between the family. However, I want to purchase Apple Music for myself only, since I would have left the family that did provide that for me, but the members of my new family don't want it.

What should my course of action be once I leave the current family? Do I first purchase my individual apple music subscription, then start family sharing and purchase iCloud storage within the family sharing? Also, would my music be saved between leaving the current family and starting my own subscription? Thanks.

  1. You would need to subscribe to Apple Music before leaving the current Family Sharing group to avoid losing music and playlists during the change.
  2. You can subscribe to the individual Music plan, and that will not be shared. It will be charged to the family organizer however.
  3. If you are using more than 5GB of iCloud storage, you will need to subscribe to a plan that covers your usage before leaving the family sharing group to avoid losing your files and photos that exceed the free 5GB storage. It too will be charged to the family organizer.
  4. Once you leave the group, the subscriptions will be charged to you.
