SDXC slot performance

I just received my 2024 M4 Max MacBook Pro and my initial testing of the SDXC slot is showing very slow data transfer speeds. I'm interested in what type of performance other people are seeing with the SDXC slot and if I may have something misconfigured.

For reference - I do a lot of video editing and regularly transfer large video files via SD or Micro SD cards. In the past I have used an inexpensive Anker USB-C card reader and was excited for the SDXC slot on the M4 Mackbook Pro.

My testing (Black Magic) is showing only about a 70 - 90 MB/s write/read throughput for the internal SDXC slot compared to about 140 - 160 MB/s for the external Anker card reader. (The card is a SanDisk Extreme Pro micro SD [V30]).

I couldn't find any data regarding what data speed I should be expecting from the SDXC slot but I figured it would be better than an external reader. Do others have any insights on what your experience has been?

Thank you for the helpful information regarding the spec of the SDXC card slot. I was not able to find that information myself from the Apple website.

The convenience of the internal SDXC slot is nice to have when mobile. However, it sounds like for people that create a lot of video content, a higher performing external card reader may be a more efficient option for large file transfers. In my initial real world testing, I am finding about a 80% - 90% increase in performance when using even an inexpensive external reader.

Thanks for the feedback!
