backup music on iphone onto a new mac without deleting it

I have an iphone with lots of music on it. I want to back it up onto a new mac that does not have the music on its library. I am worried the mac will overwrite the music on the phone and delete it all since there is nothing on the mac. Am I able to do this? I just want a backup on my new computer. thanks!

You are correct. If the music library is empty on your new Mac. it will erase the music library on your iPhone if you try to sync the two. If you still have the music library on your old Mac, here is what you should do:
