How to disable website suggestions in Safari?
When clicking the address bar to type something, Safari for Mac, version 18.1 (20619.2.8.11.10), using macOS Sequoia 15.1 (24B83), shows a section called “Suggestions” that displays some recently and/or frequently visited web pages. How can I prevent that section from appearing?
I have turned off “Include search engine suggestions” and ”Include Safari Suggestions” but unsurprisingly, considering that these are not search results but some previously visited websites that appear before typing a single character, that does not make a difference:
Presumably, I can clear this list by clearing my browsing history, but I do not want to clear my browsing history. I very much appreciate suggestions from the browsing history when beginning to type URLs. But I do not want a selection of those websites to show up as large icons every time I click the address bar.
This is a real problem when sharing a screen or a Safari window in digital meetings. Not only do websites that I visit privately show up, but more disturbingly, the website of one client (maybe even with the title of a page that is being tested and not yet published) may show up in a meeting with another client. (Only in the event that I click the address bar, of course, but sometimes, situations when that is needed are hard to avoid.) That is not very professional and may even leak confidential information.
