Solution to Magic Trackpad 2 not discoverable on a iMac Retina 27" late 2015

I went round and round with Apple on this issue after purchasing the latest Magic Trackpad 2 off of the Apple website. After October 2024 Apple change the cable connection from Lightning to USB-C. My iMac is does not have a USB-C port. The USB-C to USB cable I already have was the only way to connect it to my computer. USB-C to regular USB doesn't talk. When I purchased the Lightning version of the Magictrack Pad 2, I connected it using my Lightning to USB cable (that I already had) and it worked perfectly. Note, Apple is shipping Lightning to USB-C cable with the Lightning version of their product. So you will need a Lightning to USB cable in addition to the Trackpad in order to make it work.

Went thru upper levels of Apple support who couldn't figure this out. I asked them about the cable but they said it didn't matter when in fact it does!
