Connecting Macbook Pro M3 to external display using a USB-C - USB-C data cable

I have a new Macbook Pro M3 and am trying to connect to my external display using a USB-C - USB-C cable (5A 10Gbps) and am unable to do so. I get the message "no signal" on the external monitor. The monitor still connects to my older MacBook Pro laptop (2019) without any problem. I am not sure what the problem could be. Do I need a different USB-C - USB-C data cable for the thunderbolt port?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.7
