iPhone XSmax - calls only working over wifi. Can text and use what’s app 4G

Hi all,

my iPhone XS Max just stopped making and receiving calls unless over wifi, in which calls work

perfectly.

when I go to call, it just doesn’t ring at all.

I can however send and text messages over 4G and call via what’s app.

I’ve tried all the usual things, restarts, airplane mode. Do not disturb isn’t on etc.

ive tried to go to a different location and makes no difference.

The carrier settings look fine and I can’t see any carrier updates. Just updated to latest iOS.

Ive put the sim in another phone and works fine. Contacted my carrier and they are saying it’s a handset issue.

any ideas? Was working fine yesterday.

Thanks. Carrier advised no issues and was a handset issue. After lots of playing around, I fixed it. You need to have the VoLTE turned on under settings, pmobile data, click the 4g and turn on. That fixed the issue. Hopefully this helps others.

Check with your carrier. They may have a list of supported phones, and they may have recently changed that list. Older phones sometimes lose functionality when carriers make changes to their network.

The iPhone XS hardware does not support some of the newer 4G/LTE frequency bands. Some carriers have moved their voice service to those bands. If yours has done so, then you will need to upgrade to a supported model iPhone. One example is LTE Band 28, which is now required by some carriers for voice calls but is only supported on the iPhone 12 and later.
