Keeping a local folder

I am learning to code and one of the recommendations i received is to keep working files locally stored. I am currently syncing my Documents and Desktop as my computer only has 250Gb of storage so everything needs to be on iCloud. (dang)

Is there a way to keep the working code files locally while keeping all my other documents in the icloud? so far all my document and desktop files appear on the iCloud and i dont see a way to easily seperate a single folder (with many subfolders).

Thanks in advanced

Juan

You can move those files to another folder in your User account. You can create a folder in your User account named Coding, for instance, and put the files there instead of in the Documents or Desktop folders.

If you don't have "Optimize Storage" turned on, then the files in iCloud drive are always local. They are just copied to iCloud.com.

For your information, in macOS 15 Sequoia, you can designate specific files in iCloud Drive to be kept downloaded by using a pop-up menu:

But in Sonoma the best plan is just to move the files out of iCloud Drive. I'd open them first, to be sure that they are full downloaded.
