Why are my Contacts missing from iCloud?

I am missing some of my contacts, I have always used iCloud and sync'd all contacts (and double checked the setting is on for all my devices)

I pay for iCloud+ have 150Gb of 2TB used; So lots of free space.

iOS - both iPad and iPhone (both running 18.1.1) have 7842 contacts

2 MacBook Pro laptops (both running Mac OS 15.1.1) have 7908

iCloud in a browser shows 7908.

So 3 of 5 devices have exactly the same, but both iOS devices are missing 66 contacts.

Very frustrating !

Also some of my contact photos are missing on one of my MBP's; see this post

Any thoughts about how to get all my contacts sync'ing ? I noticed it because I was looking for someone on my phone that I knew I added on my MBP.

As you can see I am very invested in the Apple ecosystem, and would like to get the benefits of my contacts sync'ing across all my apple devices.

I tried turning off contact sync'ing on my iPhone and turned it back on, but no new contacts were sync'd.

Interesting test on the duplicated contact, that is showing up everywhere now. In iOS - I can see the original proper contact photo. On my MBP I changed the contact to a shark, the original correct photo remains on iOS, even 10 minutes later. On iCloud I now see the updated MBP image, the default shark.

I also submitted feedback to Apple, not sure if they look into stuff like this.

Any ideas on what to try or how to get apple to fix ?

Or are there any good 3rd party applications that would integrate across the platforms and support the native apps (iMessage, Mail) ?

What if I switch everything over to Google contacts ?

Just trying to come up with something.

Not being sure a contact is there is frustrating.

Also on the newest MBP - 16" M3 Pro, Mac OS 15.1.1 - images do not show up for new contacts.

I am paying Apple for iCloud+ and their big bundle, does this entitle me to any support that they will help me ?

I have a sample contact that is not showing up. I exported it, and deleted it on the Mac. Then re-imported on the Mac, and it's still not showing up.

Not have a reliable address book is a major miss.

MacMini 7908, so seems like just an iOS issue.

I did another test - I duplicated a missing contact (copy/paste) on my MBP, the duplicated contact does show up. However, the duplicated contact is missing the contact picture/image.
