iphone 10 wont pair with Apple Watch Series 8

An updated iPhone X will not pair with an updated Apple Watch Series 8. It continuously says that pairing failed. It won’t work with the 6 digit code either. When I look on the apple website it says that these devices are compatible when updated. Any advice?

what watchOS is the watch running

because iphone X does not support higher than iOS 16.7.10

and watchOS 10 requires the iphone to be running iOS 17

and watchOS 11 requires the iphone to be running iOS 18
