Final Cut Pro is freezing during editing after 10.8 update (still whit 11.00 version)

Hello everyone,

I never had problems with FCPX, but after the 10.8 update the program started to be unusable.

I had a 2019 MacBook Pro (whit Intel chip) and I thought that the model was the problem.

So, I upgraded my Macbook with a new M4 Pro MacBook, but the problem persists.

It is not an hardware or an external disk issue. I tried to reset preferences - delete and reinstall FCPX app - create a new library - set off some trackpad options.

Yes I used the migration assistant, but I need my data and files, and the problem is ONLY with FCPX with freezing and forced quit.

I can't work this way. What can I do?

If nobody can solve it, I think I'll return the new MacBook, because it is useless :(

The fact that you are getting the same problem on 2 different computers suggests that you may be doing something wrong though it's impossible to tell.

What were the symptoms that made FCP unusable?

If you Migrated everything are you sure that your drive is not nearly full?

The bottom line is that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with FCP or the OS.

Hi Ian, thank you for your answer.

Every time I edit a video, when I add titles or a new media (like images), the FCPX playback starts freezing and keep going until I quit (or force quit) the app.

I don't have extensions, my drive is not full (old Mac was 256 gb and the new 512 gb).

And everything started when I updated to 10.8 (and also Sequoia).

I repeat: never had problems whit FCPX, everything started with the updates.

I thought was for the 4k vertical clip on a 1080p vertical project, but the problem persists also in horizontal 1080p projects with 1080p clips.

I tried to change some settings, 'cause there's a lot of people that had the same problem when working with the Trackpad, but still no fix for this issue.

Just uploaded on YT a video to show the problem (with the new macbook)

Hi Luis, thank you for your answer.

The libraries are on Macbook HD, and for the media I always had the "leave file in place" option.

The 500 GB external is ExFAT but the problem also showed with the APFS one.

(This method of edit with the 500 GB external never showed any issues in the past 4 years).

Edit 4k clips on a 1080p project can create problems?

I don't know, it's all so weird, and it's seems it's happening only to me :(

By the way, I noticed that with the horizontal video this error happens less often
