Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch (A1502) shows low battery icon when exiting deep sleep at 45% or lower.

My MacBook Pro (13", 2016, A1502) often goes into deep sleep (safe sleep?) while I'm using it when the battery is anywhere from 40 to 50% (never at exactly the same %).

It shows the red low-battery icon on screen and I can't wake it again without plugging it back in. When it wakes, the battery is still at whatever it was, usually between 40 and 50%.

I looked at PMSET and see the HIGHSTANDBYTHRESHOLD default is 50%, so the entry to deep sleep makes sense. Not being able to exit deep sleep unless i plug in the charge adapter briefly is my issue. I recently installed a new battery myself, which operates fine except for this condition. Since I recognize this laptop is old and I'm basically on my own here, I would just like to know: How does the macbook determine whether there is insufficient power to exit deep sleep? If there is communication with the battery itself to get this info, I guess my new battery just isn't communicating properly, and was hoping to get a little more info to confirm this before I tried yet another new battery. Removing the original battery WAS QUITE DIFFICULT (seemed like it was epoxied in!).

First, A1502 comes back to a MBPro 13" from Late 2013 to Early 2015 according to MacTracker.....an actual 2016 model is completely different (has the USB-C ports & much different power/battery behavior). Never reference the year of purchase since some models are not discontinued until years later. Use the model information found by clicking the Apple menu & selecting "About This Mac".

Unfortunately the quality of third party Lithium Batteries is extremely poor even when purchased from respectable vendors such as OWC or iFixIt (they are the best options though). Plus the third party battery needs to be properly calibrated & exercised or you will find yourself with a bad battery that will degrade more quickly. Assuming you did not accidentally damage the Logic Board or other electronics, then the Battery is the most likely source of the problem.
