Had Sonoma on there
Updated to 15.1.1 without backing up first.
Crashes about a minute or so after starting up in regular mode.
Crashes after a few minutes in safe mode.
Sometimes it tells me started in Panic ______[something]
Other times it tells me it has disabled Kexts.
A couple times it tells me it disabled HP [printer software].

I finally got it. I enjoyed having my computer down for a few weeks, then I set to work.
In the few minutes it would run at a time, I transferred every (complete) folder that had been modified since June onto a flash drive.
Then I copied over every every photo I had added.
Then I made backups of my bookmarks in my web browser.
A few more little tidbits that had been touched.
Then I wiped the disk and reinstalled Mac OS.
Got everything up to June off of a Time Machine backup.
Then everything that changed off the thumb drive.
It was time consuming, but I got it.
Then I put in backing up as a practice whenever I water my plants. And I will never update my OS without backing up first again!

What all is plugged into the Mac?
Boot into Restore mode,CMD+r keys...
Look at top of screen for Utilities menu...
In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.
Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.
Does it ever crash in Restore Mode?
You might be able Install to an external drive on Restore Mode.
What error message?

I unplugged everything except the screen printer and mouse and it still crashes.
I ran Disk First Aid. It didn't find anything.
Not sure if it crashed in Restore mode or not. I'll keep an eye out.
Looked at restoring the OS, but it appears to me, and I may be wrong, that it wants to erase everything on my hard drive in order to reinstall. Not sure I want to lose all my files.
Will try to see if I can install from Recovery to external, as you suggest, without erasing everything. As it says here:

Bummer! It won't let me install mac OS on external hard drive using Restore Mode. It let me select the drive, but it returned an error message.
Could I perhaps use a different computer to install the OS on the hard drive (if I can find the cables to do so)?
Can I set up another OS on an external hard drive to get this thing to run long enough to fix it?
It has crashed a hundred times but there are only a few crash reports. Here is the most recent I have:
Interesting: warning messages have disappeared on boot today, but it still crashes after a minute or two.
Hmm... In Activity Monitor, it is showing a LOT of network activity even with the Wifi turned off (as always) and Ethernet unplugged.
Everything running as listed in Activity Monitor is attached.
I feel your pain.
OS 15.2 solved my problems, which were similar.
