I bought a new iPhone 16 with ios 18.1. Now my apple emails don't download. i see there has been a problem with ios 18 but this is 18.1. Many of the solutions involve app specific passwords or putting a slash in a field, which may work for secondary email accounts but there is nowhere to access IMAP settings with the primary account. No 'advanced settings' tab

Thank you. In the meantime I contacted Apple Support. In the end I had to stop apple email, uninstall the Mail app, reset the network settings, reinstall the Mail am and turned on Apple emails again and it worked. In retrospect perhaps the best thing would have been to contact support (via chat) sooner and I would have wasted less of my time. Frustrating, but thanks for your reply.
Remove your email from Mail and re-enter it using the appropriate option for the email address
