IPad Air 5 with iPad is 18.1. Pressing power button for a little longer causes strange light

When I press the side power button on my IPad the screen lights up all the way around the very edge with a multicolored light and there is a small orange dot beside the wifi indicator at the top right of the screen. After a second or two the light fades away and the dot also disappears. Research suggests the orange dot is indicating that the microphone is in use but no app is active at all
