"Hey Siri" responds on phone instead of Mac

So there were some threads about this a few years ago, but I never used Siri on my mac before so it was never an issue. However, with Siri getting upgrades and AI, I figured I would start seeing what it can do.

BUT I always have my phone around, and Siri answers from the phone. Every time. Even the weird advice to "put it face down" doesnt make any difference. This seems like something that should have been addressed by now, so maybe I'm missing something.

Insight? anybody? Or should I just pester apple with feedback on this?
