Calendar with different colour tabs, considering Readdle calendar

I have different items I want to put on a calendar (monthly) where they can have different colour FULL tabs (not just a dot at the end). Some are recurring, some are not. I got the free version of Readdle to try but it's not letting me enter a recurring item (a birthday for example).

Is there a calendar out there where you can see the full month will different colours at a glance for different types of appts or recurring items?

I thought the Readdle would work but while it SAYS "recurring" it's ghosted and not working for me.
